Under flat daylight it reads almost as stone: a pale mineral relief on a pale slab, the gold present but withheld, showing as a warm depth rather than a colour. Move a source low and to one side and the piece detonates quietly — the chambers catch and hold, each fracture returning light at its own angle, and the lattice that looked inert becomes the only lit thing in the room. It does not glow evenly. Gold leaf never does.
